Kelsey Ellington

is a public historian working in the museum sector, specialising in First World War aviation and its cultural history.

She writes and produces public-facing historical content across digital and media platforms. Known online as 'Flying Historian'.

ABOUT

Kelsey is a public historian and researcher with a focus on the cultural and social history of First World War aviation. She works in the museum sector, with experience in historical research and public-facing content production. Her work explores pilot training, the makings of the 'Aces', and the lived experiences of those who served during the war.

Alongside her museum work, she produces historical video content on YouTube and Instagram and writes long-form public history online. Her digital work combines research with accessible storytelling, and she is also developing a work of historical fiction set during the First World War.

Her research interests include the ways in which early military aviation has been remembered and represented, both during and after the war.

Kelsey has authored a featured article exploring the cultural memory of the 'Ace', and the reality of Great War flying.
